Kannawidan is a variant of the Ilocano word"tawid"meaning heritage or inheritance .It is the time to commemorate the Anniversary of Ilocos Sur as a province since it was separated on February 3 1818.
Kannawidan became one of the most awaited annual celebrations in the Province .Kannawidan was held to preserve Traditions ,Foods ,Enhance community pride and reinvent the identity and opportunity to share their culture and knowledge with more people.
Due to the increasing rate of the corona virus ,The Provincial Government trough its Provincial Office ,has announced strict guidelines to be observed during the festival to prevent the spread of the Covid 19.It was held in the Heritage City of Vigan,the festival opened with ribbon cutting of the trade of the food fair at the Kannawidan Grounds in arangay Tamag where the one town one product of the province were displayed.It was followed by the Holy Mass. The Coronation of Saniata ti Ylocos was held in Ichthus Beach.
Amidst this Pandemic the Festival was celebrated but not in the usual way,The Festival is limited . A lot of Businesses is also affected due to the limited visitors.We just pray that this pandemic will end.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree that this year's celebration is obviously different from the previous years. But what we can really do now is hope and pray that this pandemic will end very soon for us to celebrate these beautiful festivals the usual way that we are used to.
